D+Lirium: Walter Goldfarb

It's rare that art moves me, but a recent trip to the Museum of Latin American Art produced a revelation: Walter Goldfarb, a Brazilian Jew (just like KFI-AM 640 genius loudmouth Bill Handel) whose exhibit "D+Lirium" is drawing both praise and crowds. Goldfarb splits his 24 paintings (all massive canvases that can't fit into any normal living room) by themes: Black, White and Lysergic Garden. The White series deals with the Holocaust but touches on levity-don't get offended by the dancing crucifixes, Christians! Lysergic Garden blinds the eyes with brilliant, loud colors. But it's the Black series that stirs your soul, with charcoal images of Rembrandt-esque scenes of men with ruffles signifying . . . something. Dig the ceiling-high rope that Goldfarb made from scratch!
Tuesdays-Fridays, 11:30 a.m.; Saturdays, Sundays, 11 a.m. Starts: Jan. 1. Continues through May 19, 2008
