This Week in Good Tongues

Mini-KISS

MICHAEL COYLE

Published on October 20, 2005

Joey Fatale is the biggest little KISS fan in the world -- seriously. One day, while looking at his KISS Alive album, it hit him: Why not start a KISS tribute band with other little people? And with that, Mini-KISS was born.

But while Fatale, a.k.a. Mini Gene, realized that KISS might be the only band you can mimic without knowing how to play actual songs, he hasn't stopped at just looking like them: the other band members can actually play instruments, and Fatale is taking guitar lessons as well.

He hopes Mini KISS will soon really rock -- they currently use Ashlee Simpson-style backing tracks -- but as for the rest of KISS's famed act, Fatale tells us the Great White pyrotechnics tragedy has kept him from doing any more fire breathing and he has no plans to lengthen his tongue. "Everybody says my tongue is good enough," he explains.

Mini-KISS play V2O, 81 Aquarium Way, Long Beach, (866) 402-5828. Thurs., Oct. 27. Free before 10:30 with a flier or valid college ID. 21+.
