This Week in When Will China Crush Us?

Chi' Chinese Acrobats

ELIZABETH KHURI

Published on October 20, 2005

If you're in need of some Taoist caffeine, check out the Chi' Chinese Acrobats and get your life force pumping. You'll see nearly 40 members of the Shanghai acrobatic troupe tumble, juggle and dazzle while displaying that perfect balance between the yin and the yang. Watching the acrobats dressed in Fellini-esque costumes and contorting to a sometimes-hurly-burly techno beat, you'll ask yourself, "Will that tower of chairs topple?" followed by, "How many people can the stilt man carry?" and finally, "When will China crush us?" This is a country in which members of the government give speeches at National Acrobatic conferences, so expect greatness. Your blood pressure may rise, but the acrobats will produce Nirvana.

Chi' Chinese Acrobats at the Cerritos Center for the Performing Arts, 12700 Center Court Dr., Cerritos, (800) 300-4345;WWW.CERRITOSCENTER.COM. Fri.-Sat., 8 p.m. $27.50-$56.
