With an indignant scream and a doctor's commentary on our indeterminate sexuality, we're born, Sept. 15, 1995. On the cover, a black-and-white photo (color was not yet invented) of Social Distortion front man Mike Ness and Rose Apodaca Jones' "secret history of the OC sound." In that same issue, Jim Washburn's advice to competitors in his first Lost in OC column: "Our offices are on Pleasure Island in a treehouse in the clouds where we do the techno-hula all night long. We drive converted submarines and signal our lane changes with torpedoes. So admit your defeat and go back to reporting on the traffic jams we cause."
