Eight Days

Thursday, Nov. 4
Are you 14, but have a sophomore friend who can drive? Then trek out to Pomona for buzz bands Deathcab for Cutie and Pretty Girls Make Graves, and you're pretty well guaranteed to see those kids from The O.C. that my roomie Mary Reilly literally squealed about when she heard they were engaged. Will they really be there? I don't really care! 7 p.m. $18. All ages. The Glass House, 200 W. Second St., Pomona, (909) 629-0377.

Friday
Do, do, do see Capital before it closes. It's a musical about capital punishment, and per our Theater listings, it's about "two activists who accidentally kill the governor of their state while trying to persuade him to stay the execution of the notorious Billy the Goat." With folk songs! Yow! I am reminded of a perhaps less-sophisticated Bob Roberts. Should you do crack? No. It's a ghetto drug. 8 p.m. $21.50-$25.50. Grove Theater Center's Gem Theater, 12852 Main St., Garden Grove, (714) 741-9555.

Saturday
Can't decide whether to go to All Tomorrow's Parties at the Queen Mary on Saturday to see Modest Mouse and Lou Reed, or on Sunday to see Flaming Lips, The Cramps, Built to Spill and The Shins? I guess you'll just to have to pony up the $90 and go both days. Poor you! You know, I've been to some dogs of festivals at the Queen Mary Park. This ain't gonna be one of them. Just imagine: it's like Coachella without the heat, the bad planning and Perry Farrell! 2 p.m. One-day pass, $55 plus facility fee (what is a facility fee? That's an excellent question!); two-day pass, $90, plus that facility fee. All ages. Queen Mary Park, end of 710 fwy., Long Beach, (562) 435-3511 or (323) 980-3444; www.atpfestival.com or www.ticketmaster.com.

Sunday
If I recommend Nicholas Clapp discussing Sheba—Through the Desert in Search of the Legendary Queen, do you think that will get the Bowers Museum's flack off my back, or is this totally unrelated to the Queen of Sheba exhibit at the Bowers that he keeps freaking spamming me about? Reply hazy! 5 p.m. Barnes & Noble, Metro Pointe, 901B South Coast Dr., Costa Mesa, (714) 444-0226.

Monday
Take a bubble bath! Do you deserve it? Probably not!

Tuesday
Lou Reed and John Cale in town in one week? Who was the other guy in the Velvet Underground again? Got me! With The Willowz, Ashburyand Ctrl Alt Delete. 8 p.m. $15. All ages. Galaxy Concert Theatre, 3503 S. Harbor Blvd., Santa Ana, (714) 957-0600; www.galaxytheatre.com.

Wednesday
It's not a parody or a sketch show. It's the actual "licenced" re-creation, with sets, music and sound effects from the O.G. TV series . . . Star Trek! Because I only feel like copy-and-pasting the press release, here it is: "A woman beams onboard and steals Spock's Brain. The crew of the Enterprise goes in search of Spock's Brain, and they have only a short time to restore it . . . or Spock will Die!!!" Must you go? Fuck, yeah, you must! 8:30 p.m. $15. Irvine Improv, 71 Fortune Dr., Ste. 841, Irvine, (949) 854-5455.

Thursday, Nov. 11
Go throw things at Andrew Bernstein, senior writer for the Ayn Rand Institute, as he expounds his marvelous theory on Global Capitalism—The Cure for World Oppression and Poverty. With a Q&A session! What's wrong with Libertarians? Nothing, if you're a Republican who voted for Badnarik. 7:30 p.m. Hyatt Regency Hotel, 17900 Jamboree Rd., Irvine, (949) 222-6550.
