Eight Days

Thursday Sept. 9
Sure, I hate Huntington Beach, and sure, I hate surfers. But if I didn't, this would be superfun! The Surf Theater features the band Yovee playing music from their original soundtrack to the film shown at the evening's screening, Drive Thru South Central America. See Benji Weatherly, Donavon Frankenrieter, Kalani Robb, Shane Dorianand Ozzie Wright doing whatever the proper slang term is for surfing through Panama, Brazil and Chile. 7 & 9 p.m. $8.75. Surf Theater, Mann Pierside 6 Cinemas, corner of Pacific Coast Hwy. & Main St., Huntington Beach, (714) 969-3151; www.bigredprod.com.

Friday
Tibbies Great American Cabaret
offers dinner and Those Fabulous Forties, a nostalgic trip back to the big-band era. Once, I was going to get married, and we were going to have a big-band band play our reception. But then the singer went to prison for child molestation, and also, we didn't get married. Both things were really sad. 7 p.m. $44.95; children under 12, $28.95; kids under 2 not dining, $10. Queen Mary, Queen Elizabeth Room/Sunset Lounge, 1126 Queen's Hwy., Long Beach, (562) 499-1757; www.queenmary.com.

Saturday
Remember Sept. 11 with "Perceptions of Our President." This exhibition juried by Kristina Newhouse probes the perceptions of one Mr. George W. Bush. I'm guessing there's going to be lots of pictures of monkeys. Opening reception 6-10 p.m. Through Oct. 29. Koo's, 530 E. Broadway, Long Beach, (562) 491-7584; www.koos.org.

Sunday
Apparently Franki, her breasts, and her tats have moved on, but her old band Boobie Trap—along with OC legends The Crowd, Working Class Zeroes, Brass Taxx, Saving Grace, Civetand Never Ready—plays a Hepatitis C Awareness benefit anyway. I'll probably show up to this one—Hep C hits close to Commie Girl HQ—but remind me to bring earmuffs. 2 p.m. $15. All ages. Galaxy Concert Theatre, 3503 S. Harbor Blvd., Santa Ana, (714) 957-0600; www.galaxytheatre.com.

Monday
You probably need to get some groceries, yeah?

Tuesday
You know what a lot of people don't know about Jews—aside from the fact that, baby, we got rhythm? That a lot of us have problems with alcohol and drugs! Dude, seriously, a lot. So if you're a Jew with a child or spouse with a drinking and/or drug problem, Thirteen Steps to Jewish Recovery is the support group for you. Also? You should probably make your child or spouse get tested for Hep C. Jews have that a ton! Preregistration's required. 7 p.m. Jewish Family Service, 1 Federation Way, Ste. 350, Irvine, (714) 445-4950.
