Goth Not

Photo by James BunoanWho hasn't spent a sleepless night pondering the Big Questions: What does it all mean? What happens when we die? Why are we here? Who sleeps with Eddie from The Munsters? Well, sweet dreams, sleepyhead: in our fantasy, Eddie (Butch Patrick) gets it on with the ghoulishly lovely Ivonna Cadaver (a.k.a. Natalie Popovich), with whom he hosts KDOC's monster-movie show Macabre Theatre every Saturday at 10 p.m. We don't know this, of course; it's just monster fantasy.

OC Weekly: Tell me about Macabre Theatre.Ivonna Cadaver:Is Ivonna part of the undead? She's not necessarily alive or dead. She's been around for centuries. She's a 21st-century ghoul. She has access to the Internet. Wow. Most people are under the impression it's difficult for the older generation to learn to use computers. What kind of music do you listen to?I like Slipknot. We want to showcase up-and-coming bands on our show. There's a band that's kind of in the realm of Slipknot called Ill NiƱo. I like Godsmack. I also like hip-hop and rap—I like Outkast, Bone Thugs, 50 Cent, Eminem. I like some of the old Master P stuff. Butch is really good friends with the Dead Kennedys; we're going to have them on the show. I love Tool and Queens of the Stone Age. And Korn are cool. Kiss, Jane's Addiction, the Cult. Butch's brother has a band called Head Case.In your off-hours, are you Ivonna-ish?It's funny. I like the darker genre, so I guess I'm not that far off from her. My hair is really black, I don't wear a wig. And my clothes, I have black clothes. I have that city look in many ways. Are you originally from a city?I'm originally from Florida, but I spend a lot of time in New York and Chicago. Are you Goth? No.Is Ivonna friends with Elvira? She would be. She's not, but she would be.Does Ivonna have a boyfriend? No.Does she get lonely? She would probably like to meet somebody. She's always up for meeting somebody.Do horror movies scare you?No, I love them!Favorites?Oh, God, there are several. Night of the Living Dead, Plan Nine from Outer Space—all Ed Wood movies—Motel Hell, Dead or Alive. Roger Corman films. Bela Lugosi stuff. All the old classics. Butch Patrick and I host monster movies, and we do vignettes that wrap the movies. We open the show in Grandpa's dungeon. Ivonna lives in the dungeon. We're incorporating location shoots—Butch will go out of the dungeon and interview people. He might interview Rob Zombie. We had George Barris, the car guy who did the Munster coach. We had Lisa Loring, who played Wednesday Addams, and Felix Silla, who played Cousin Itt.
